Today is one of my favourite days of the year – the day the BFI London Film Festival unveils its programme for 2015. The Festival consistently manages to programme most of the Best Pictures nominees every year – will 2015 be any different?
We already know a few details of the line-up. The Festival opens on October 7 with Suffragette starring Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep – both of whom are expected to attend.
It closes with Steve Jobs, the hotly-anticipated drama about the Apple boss from Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin. Expect to see stars Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet on the red carpet.
Cate Blanchett will receive the BFI Fellowship as part of the festival as well as attend screenings of two new films, Carol and Truth – both of which I can’t wait to see!
So that’s what we know – the rest is pure speculation/wishful thinking on my part:
The Danish Girl – Eddie Redmayne’s already being talked about as a possible double Oscar-winner for his role in this drama about a transgender woman.
High-Rise – rumours abound that Ben Wheatley’s latest will feature in the line-up. Tom Hiddleston stars in the drama based on JG Ballard’s novel.
Bridge of Spies – Tom Hanks opened and closed the Festival in 2013. I’d love to see him return to Leicester Square and bring Steven Spielberg with him…
The Lady in the Van – Maggie Smith stars in the adaptation of Alan Bennett’s story about an elderly woman who lived outside his house for years. It seems an obvious choice for the Festival.
Grandma – Lily Tomlin has been talked about as a possible nominee since this comedy-drama premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
Youth – Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel won rave reviews when Paolo Sorrentino’s latest premiered at Cannes. How great would it be to see Sir Michael back in London?
So those are my wish list, whether or not any of my choices will be there remains to be seen…
