At LFF today (day nine)

A British acting legend walks the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival on day nine, in the shape of Sir Michael Caine.

Caine will be at the UK premiere of his new film, Youth. He’ll be joined at the screening by the film’s director Paolo Sorrentino as well as co-stars Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano and singer Paloma Faith (who appears as a version of herself in the film).

It’s a beautifully shot film and Caine and Keitel are on fine form. I found it both shocks and saddens.

Also tonight is the Competition screening of Sunset Song, directed by Terence Davies. Cast members Agyness Deyn and Peter Mullan are expected.

And Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) will be at the official screening of her new film, Burn, Burn, Burn. She’ll be joined by fellow actors Chloe Pirrie and Jack Farthing.
