Is Ben Whishaw finally going to play Freddie Mercury?

The long talked about Freddie Mercury biopic appears to be doing the rounds in Hollywood again as the writer of The Theory of Everything has been hired to work on the script.

Antony McCarten’s been brought in to work on the script; the first draft was written by Peter Morgan.

Now it looks like studios might start taking interest in the project again, and Ben Whishaw is being talked about as a possible lead.

I think Whishaw is a much better choice than Sacha Baron Cohen, who almost starred in the film before pulling out over creative differences with Brian May and Roger Taylor (who are heavily involved in bringing the film to the big screen). Whishaw really does seem the obvious choice for the role.

Anyway, it’s another case of waiting and watching with this one. To quote Bohemian Rhapsody “is this the real life, or is this just fantasy?”.
