Martin Freeman’s next film role will be in a zombie movie.

The Sherlock star has signed on to lead the cast of zombie pandemic thriller, Cargo.

The film is based on Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling’s short of the same name, which has had more than 10 million views on YouTube. Howling will direct with fellow first-time feature director Ramke, who has also written the script.

Freeman will play a father who is stranded in rural Australia in the aftermath of a violent pandemic. Infected himself, the father desperately seeks a new home for his small child and a way to protect her from his own changing nature.

Filming is due to begin in the autumn in Australia.
