Ian McKellen to play King Lear

Ian McKellen will play King Lear on stage in Chichester later this year.

The actor, who has only just finished a run in the West End in No Man’s Land will lead the production that opens in September.

No further casting for the production has been announced so far.

The play is part of the Chichester Festival Theatre’s new season which also includes Omid Djalili and Tracy-Ann Oberman in a new production of the musical Fiddler on the Roof which┬áruns between 10 July and 26 August.

Oscar and Tony Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden makes her UK theatre debut in Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth.

Richard Wilson is set to star in Alan Bennett’s Forty Years On which is set on a public school’s headmaster’s last day. It runs in the Festival Theatre from 26 April to 20 May.
