Author Curtis Sittenfeld is working on a new novel that imagines what would have happened to Hillary Rodham if she turned down Bill Clinton.

The book, which will be published in 2019, is “told from the point of view of Hillary Rodham, in which (as she did in real life) she turns down marriage proposals from Bill Clinton, then ultimately turns him down once and for all, and how her life spins out from there.”

It’s part of a new three-book deal Sittenfeld has signed with Random House – they haven’t announced what the other two books will be about yet.

Sittenfeld has previous with former First Ladies. Her 2008 novel American Wife is a fictionalised tale of Laura Bush (and is one of my favourite books).

I’m intrigued by the new book.
