Channel 4 has confirmed it plans to remake Barbara Taylor Bradford’s epic drama A Woman of Substance for a new generation.
The broadcaster originally aired an adaptation of the book in 1985 and it remains Channel 4’s most-watched drama of all time with 14 million viewers.
The remake will be written by Katherine Jakeways and Roanne Bardsley who penned Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers.
No details yet on who will take on the lead role played by Jenny Seagrove in the original adaptation. She starred alongside a then little known Liam Neeson.
A Woman of Substance follows Emma Harte as she rises from a servant in Yorkshire during the start of the 20th century to overseeing a huge empire and becoming one of the richest women in the world.
