60 years later, the hills are still alive with The Sound of Music

A new 4K restoration of The Sound of Music will be released in UK cinemas next month, to mark the film’s 60th anniversary.

Tickets for the 60th anniversary screenings go on sale on 14th August at soundofmusicincinemas.com.

The iconic film stars Julie Andrews as Maria, a spirited young woman who leaves the convent and becomes a governess to the seven unruly children of Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer).

Her warmth, charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children and their father. But when the threat of war rises, Maria is forced to attempt a daring escape with her new family.

  1. A movie I loved since childhood- my first Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. While I never saw it at the movie theater, at least I eventually saw it in person (November 2015)- only a few differences between movie and stage- song order and some songs are only in the stage show
