Great news for Muggles and Wizards alike – a prequel to Harry Potter will open on the London stage next year.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is expected to premiere at London’s Palace Theatre next summer.
The play is written by TV writer Jack Thorne and will be directed by John Tiffany (a Tony winner for Broadway’s Once). the dup previously worked together on the stage version of Let the Right One In.
JK Rowling first revealed plans for a Potter play in December 2013. Back then, her official statement said the play would “explore the previously untold story of Harry’s early years as an orphan and outcast” and could also feature some appearances by beloved book characters.
Rowling has collaborated on the script for the play, but hasn’t written it on her own. She is co-producing the venture along with veteran theater producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender.
So 2016 is going to be a big year for Potter fans – new play and Eddie Redmayne starring in the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
