Is Kate Winslet heading to Middle-earth?

Kate Winslet has apparently signed on to play the female lead in Andy Serkis’s forthcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

According to Deadline, she will be on set in New Zealand from May to October this year to film her role. Details of the character she’ll be playing have not been revealed.

She’s expected to join Serkis, who is directing the film as well as pulling on his mocap suit to play Gollum, as well as Sir Ian McKellen who’ll be back as Gandalf and Elijah Wood who is rumoured to be returning as Frodo Baggins.

According to Deadline, the new film follows Aragorn’s perilous quest to capture he before the creature can reveal the Ring’s location to Sauron. The story, much of it developed from Tolkien’s footnotes, is set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.
