The Governors’ Awards – major celebs due

Tomorrow night in LA the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences hosts its annual Governors’ Awards dinner.

The event has become more and more significant as a place for potential Ocsar nominees to schmooze Academy members as the race to February 22 kicks up a gear.

The list of expected guests this year features plenty of talent that will be hitting the campaign trail hard over the next few months including Jennifer Aniston, Emily Blunt, Chadwick Boseman, Steve Carell, Jessica Chastain, Ellar Coltrane, James Corden, Kevin Costner, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Jake Gyllenhaal, Felicity Jones, Michael Keaton, Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Liam Neeson, Edward Norton, Jack O’Connell, Eddie Redmayne, Chris Rock, Mark Ruffalo, Andy Serkis, JK Simmons, Timothy Spall, Octavia Spencer, Hilary Swank, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon. The Hobbit – final trailer

So here we are then, the final trailer for the final Hobbit film has been released. This is the last time we’ll ever see a trailer for one of Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth films and it makes me very sad.

I absolutely loved Lord of the Rings and always name the trilogy as my favourite film. I’ve enjoyed The Hobbit but it’s never real,y lived up to my expectations. I hope The Battle of the Five Armies gives the series a fitting send-off and actually the trailer looks pretty epic.

i both look forward to and dread seeing the final film – it really will be the end of a chapter for me, I started writing about LotR before Fellowship was even released and 14 years later it’s time to say goodbye…

Miles Teller set for indie drama

Rising star Miles Teller is in talks to star in a new indie drama from the director of The Amazing Spider-Man.

Marc Webb is set to direct The Only Living Boy In New York which is about a young man who discovers his father is having an affair. When he tries to stop it, the son becomes involved with the woman as well.

Teller is probably best known for his role in the Divergent series – he’s also in the forthcoming Whiplash which was one of the best films I saw at this year’s London Film Festival.

Fassbender as Steve Jobs?

Could Michael Fassbender finally be the actor who says yes to playing Apple boss Steve Jobs?

According to reports, Fassy is in talks to star in the drama which will be directed by Danny Boyle and is written by Aaron Sorkin – both Oscar winners.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale have both previously been said to be up for the role before both dropping out – which I find strange given the calibre of both the writer and director.

Will Fassbender stick with the project? We’ll just have to wait and see.

The trailer for the stand-alone a minions movie has finally arrived.

The film sees Stuart, Kevin and Bob travel to New York in search of a despicable genius to work for. The film’s voice cast includes Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton and Allison Janney.

Moët BIFA Film Award nominees announced

The nominations for this year’s Moët BIFA film awards have just been announced.
Drama ‘71 leads the nominations with nine nods including he highest number of nominations this year goes to ‘71 with nine nominations including Best British Independent Film; Best Director and Best Actor for star Jack O’Connell.
The brilliant Pride also received seven nominations. It’s definitely one of my favourite films of the year.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley are both nominated for The Imitation Game which is also up for Best Independent Film.
Other acting nominees include Alicia Vikander, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Timothy Spall, Imelda Staunton, Andrew Scott, Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllanhaal.
The winners will be revealed on December 7.

Andy Serkis’ new role

Andy Serkis is taking a break from his Hollywood career to appear in a new computer game.
He’ll be playing villain Guy Gisborne in new stealth adventure, Volume.
The game includes top-down stealth with player-generated levels.
Players cannot kill in the game so will have to use their Ricochet device to control enemies and edit the environment.
Volume is due for release on PS4, Vita and PC early next year.

Ricky’s back in radio (sort of)

Ricky Gervais is heading back to the screen.
He’s going to star in and direct Special Correspondents, a comedy about a radio journalist and his producer who try to increase their flagging ratings by pretending to be kidnapped in Ecaudor.

Really they’re hiding out in a restaurant opposite their New York radio station. As a former radio producer I can tell you this would NEVER happen!!

Eric Bana will play the journalist with Gervais as his producer.

Celebs due at Hollywood Film Awards

Oscar hopefuls Michael Keaton and Julianne Moore will be among the stars turning out for the Hollywood Film Awards on November 14.

Reese Witherspoon, Gerard Butler, Robert Duvall, Jack O’Connell, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum and Shailene Woodley will also take part in the ceremony, which will be hosted by Queen Latifah.

It’s the start of a very long road to February 22nd.

Three Generations

Naomi Watts, Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon are to co-star in a new drama called Three Generations.
The film follows teenager Ray (Fanning) who is transitioning from female to male and her single mother, Maggie (Watts), who is coming to terms with having to raise her only daughter as a son.
At the same time, Maggie’s mother, Dolly (Sarandon), is struggling with Ray’s decision and Maggie’s inability to move out of the family home.
Filming begins this month.
