Casting Call – February 1

Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson look set to work together again on romantic comedy How To Be Single.

The pair, who appeared together in Night At The Museum 3, will be joined by Fifty Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson in the film which is about being single from both the female and male perspectives, and suggests it is not our relationships, but our single times in between, that define us. Alison Brie is also in talks to join the project which will include multiple story strands, so a bit like Valentine’s Day and He’s Just Not That Into You. Filming begins in April in New York.

Will Smith’s son Jaden is filming a new pilot for American TV. Jaden will appear alongside Maya Rudolph in Brothers In Atlanta, a comedy show for HBO. They won’t be the show’s lead actors, but are appearing as guest stars. If the pilot gets picked up they’ll appear as recurring characters.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie look set to make a third film together. Angelina is going to direct the film, called Africa, which is a Paleo-Archeologist’s battle with ivory poachers and is hoping to persuade her husband to star. The couple already have one film in the can, By The Sea, which will be released later this year.

Nick Jonas is the latest addition to Ryan Murphy’s big new drama series Scream Queens. The cast for this show is just incredible: Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer and Joe Manganiello. Meanwhile Jonas will be in London later this month to promote his music career. He’ll perform at the venue alongside Kelly Clarkson on February 14.

Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan have signed on to star in action-thriller Sleepless Night. The film is about a corrupt Las Vegas cop whose son is kidnapped by mobsters. No word yet on when filming will begin.

Jim Parsons is God. Or, he’s playing God in a new Broadway comedy, Act of God. The play will open at Studio 54 on May 28. The production promises to provide God’s answers to the mysteries of the Bible and of existence.

Liam Hemsworth is thought to be up for the lead role in the sequel to Independence Day. He’s apparently considering the offer to star in ID Forever (what a terrible title). Will Smith has already said ‘no’ to appearing in the film and so producers are now looking for a leading man. Can Liam Hemsworth make the jump from supporting star to a film’s lead?

Idina Menzel is filming a new comedy series produced by Ellen DeGeneres. Happy Time is described as a comedy about a woman (Menzel) in the public eye who’s ready to stop pretending she’s so damned happy all the time. We might not see it for a while yet though. The pilot won’t be filmed until the summer when it’ll then be offered to the US networks.

Colin Firth is expected to work with The Theory of Everything director James Marsh on a new film about the 1968 World Yacht Race. Firth will play amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst as he attempts to win the first staging of the race. Filming is expected to begin in the spring.

Firth’s The King’s Speech co-star Geoffrey Rush will play acclaimed composer Lionel Bart in a new film about his life. Consider Yourself has an absolutely stellar cast including Stephen Fry, Olivia Colman, Eddie Marsan, Matt Lucas and Michelle Dockery. The film tells the story of an untrained musician who couldn’t read or write music and yet became the first person to have three West End musicals running. At one point in the early 1960’s, Bart was earning more in song royalties than the Beatles — and still managed to lose it all. I can’t wait to see it!

Katie Holmes is returning to TV, signing on for a multi-episode run in drama series, Ray Donovan. The former Dawson’s Creek star will play Paige, a shrewd businesswoman and the daughter of new character Andrew Finney (Ian McShane). Both characters will appear throughout the show’s third series.

Olivia Wilde, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Anthony Mackie, June Squibb and Marisa Tomei are joining Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried and Alan Arkin in Christmas family drama Let It Snow. The film follows an extended family as they attempt to get together for the festive season. Filming has just begun on the film which is due to be released later is year.
