The much-anticipated special episode of Sherlock has been confirmed as a one-off by co-creator Steven Moffat.
There’s been much speculation as to where the special sits in the Sherlock cannon, especially as Sherlock and John look a little different than usual in the publicity stills.
Now Moffat has confirmed the special sits separately to the usual episodes.
“The special is its own thing,” Moffat said. “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special.
“It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it — as we could hardly conceal — it’s Victorian.”
It’s thought the special will air around Christmas-time, Sherlock tends to air at the start of the year. No word yet on when the gang will begin filming the fourth series.
