Winona Ryder is to star in a new drama series for Netflix.

The untitled eight-part drama is set in 1980’s Long Island, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Ryder will star as Joyce, the boy’s working-class single mother who must summon a strength she never knew she had in order to rescue her son.

David Harbour will play the town’s weary and disheveled chief of police who must investigate the disappearance.

The show is written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer.
