Andrew McCarthy, star of Pretty in Pink and Mannequin, is turning fiction author with the release of his first YA novel in 2017.

The actor, whose been working behind the camera on Orange is the New Black and various other TV series, has signed a deal with publisher Algonqun Young Readers to release Just Fly Away.

The story follows 15-year-old Lucy Willows, who discovers that her father has an eight-year-old son, Thomas, from an affair.

She also discovers her new-found brother lives in the same New Jersey suburb, and this leads her to  she begin questioning everything in her life.

McCarthy has previously written a New York Times bestselling memoir, The Longest Way Home.
