Disney has released some of the concept drawings for the breakout star of The Mandalorian, aka Baby Yoda.
The latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian looks at the development of what it calls “the baby.”
While the outfit he’s wearing seems familiar seems familiar, this version of Baby Yoda can best be described as a bit creepy.
“We got lots and lots of drawings,” explained showrunner Jon Favreau. “Some of them were too cute, some of them were too ugly, some of them were the wrong proportions.”
This one definitely isn’t right.
Sort of getting there…
“Finally there was one image that Chris Alzmann did that had him wrapped up in what looked like a piece of a flight jacket,” Favreau said. “His eyes were a little weird, and he looked a little out of it, there was something a little off with it. But we found it charming, and that became the rallying image that we said, ‘This is good.’ And it developed from there.”
Pretty much the Baby Yoda we all know and love. And here’s the final version we’ve all fallen in love with on screen.
Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is streaming now on Disney Plus. The episode about the development of Baby Yoda is episode 5, Practical.
Actually, if you’re interested in how the show was made the whole series is well worth a watch.
