Queen Latifah will star in the pilot for a new drama from Lee Daniels, the creator of Empire.
Latifah will lead the cast of the untitled show which is being made by US TV network Fox.
Previously titled Star, the story revolves around three young women, who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the music industry.
Unsurprisingly the project has been described in the vein of Dreamgirls, but it also expected to look at how manufactured pop groups are out together.
Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who has an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls in the group, even though she doesn’t approve.
Filming on the project begins in Atlanta later this month.
