Last June I was really excited to write about Sir Ian McKellen’s decision to write his memoirs.

Unfortunately he’s now changed his mind saying his “heart was not in them”.

McKellen had signed a £1 million deal to write about his life both as an actor and a gay rights campaigner.

But speaking to the Sunday Times, McKellen said “I have thought long and hard about these memoirs over nine months, but in the end decided my heart was not in them”.

It’s such a shame, I’m sure the book would have been fascinating. I wonder if he could be persuaded to let someone write an official biography instead?
