Sometimes you wait ages for a new Matthew McConaughey trailer, and then two come along at once.
His two new films couldn’t be more different. One is about a group of singing animals, the other an epic Civil War drama.
Sing follows Buster Moon (McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.
The cast also includes Reese Witherspoon, Seth McFarlane, JohnC Reilly, Taron Egerton and Scarlett Johansson. Sing is written and directed by Gath Jennings who also made Son of Rambow (which I love) so I expect it to be full of heart.
Sing is due in UK cinemas at the end of January.
McConaughey’s other new film is The Free State of Jones.
Written and directed by Gary Ross it tells the story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi, to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones.
The film co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali.
The Free State of Jones will be released in the UK in September.
