Muriel’s Weddding is being turned into a stage musical which will debut in Sydney, Australia, next year.
The show is being produced by Sydney Theatre Company with a book by the film’s original writer and director PJ Hogan.
The production will feature songs by Australian indie-pop star Kate Miller-Heidke as well as the iconic ABBA songs used in the film.
Muriel’s journey from Porpoise Spit to Sydney has apparently been given an update for the stage. This is the show’s poster:
“It’s been a great passion of his (Hogan’s) for a number of years to bring his show to the stage and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Global Creatures, to be bringing it to our audiences,” the STC interim artistic director Kip Williams said.
The production will open in November 2017 – let’s hoe it does well so it transfers into London.
