Whoopi Goldberg, Guy Pearce, Rosie O’Donnell, Rachel Griffiths, David Hyde Pierce and Mary-Louise Parker all feature in the first trailer for upcoming ABC miniseries, When We Rise.
The series has been created by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black and charts the rise of the fight for LGBT rights in the US, covering the Stonewall riots in 1969 to the contemporary fight for marriage equality.
The project’s cast includes Guy Pearce as Cleve Jones, the activist who wrote the book (of the same name) upon which the series is based, Whoopi Goldberg as Pat Norman, the first openly gay employee of the San Francisco Health Department, Rosie O’Donnell as Del Martin, one of the founders of the nation’s first lesbian organization, Mary Louise Parker as women’s rights champion Roma Guy, and Rachel Griffiths as Guy’s wife (and social justice activist), Diane.
When We Rise premieres in February on ABC.
