Nativity! set for stage adaptation

Nativity!, the festive comedy starring Martin Freeman, is being turned into a stage musical.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre will host the world premiere of Nativity! the Musical, in October 2017.

The stage adaptation is being written and directed by Debbie Isitt, who created the film series.

The story takes place at St Bernadette’s School, where they’ve decided to mount a musical version of the Nativity. It features songs from the films including “Sparkle and Shine”, “Nazareth” and “One Night One Moment”.

Three Nativity! films have been released with the first, starring Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen, by far the best,

Isitt said: “I’ve always believed that Nativity! would make a fantastic stage musical. It is so full of joy and the children are so sweet and funny and the songs so catchy that it lends itself to being the perfect Christmas musical”.

Nativity! the Musical will open at Birmingham Rep on October 20 before touring to Southend, Sheffield, Manchester, Plymouth, Hammersmith and Leeds.
