It’s been a while since we’ve seen Robert Downey Jr outside of the Marvel-verse but he’s finally signed up to a new film that will be completely free of superheroes.

RDJ has signed on to star in a new film from Boyhood director Richard Linklater based on the true story of Dr John Brinkley, a charlatan who scams his way to fame using fake medicine, populism, and radio.

Dr Morris Fishbein, editor of the journal of the AMA, begins a quest to take him down as Brinkley becomes more famous — mainly for transplanting goat testicles into humans.

(It does sound right up Downey’s street.)

Obviously it’s all very early days so we don’t have filming or release dates yet but it would be good to see Downey out of Tony Stark’s (iron) suit for a while.
