Lord of The Rings actor Billy Boyd is joining the cast of Outlander for season four.

The actor, who played Pippin on Peter Jackson’s films, joins the show as Gerald Forbes who is described as a wealthy lawyer who resides in Cross Creek.

Natalie Simpson is joining the cast to take over the role of Phaedre.

Simon Brown and Caitlin O’Ryan will play Gayle and Lizzie, respectively. Gayle is Brianna’s best friend and college roommate, while Lizzie is a Scottish woman who sets off on a grand adventure with Brianna.

Finally, Noisy Crow’s Tim Downie joins the cast as Governor William Tyron. He’s described as a former British officer whose important family connections help him become governor.

Season four of Outlander is due to air later this year.
