Before he heads back to New Asgard, Taika Waititi is going to direct a new film based on a documentary about the American Samoa football team.

The project, which Waititi will write as well as direct, is based on the 2014 documentary Next Goal Wins, which followed Dutch coach Thomas Rongen who attempts the nearly impossible task of turning the American Samoa football team from perennial losers into winners.

Let’s be honest, this sounds totally up Waititi’s street.

The new film, which will count Andy Serkis among its producers, is expected to shoot this autumn.
