It looks like one of the most-anticipated TV show reunions is finally going to happen.
According to reports, all six Friends are in talks to reunite for a special to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.
However, it wouldn’t be an episode of the show (so we won’t know what’s happening in the lives of Monica and Chandler, Rachael and Ross, Joey or Phoebe).
Instead the one-off is expected to be “unscripted” ie, it’ll be Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, as well as series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman, discussing the show.
If it happens, the special is expected to be released on new streaming service HBO Max (clever). It will have the rights to Friends when it launches in the US.
What that means for fans around the world who won’t have access to HBO Max at launch remains to be seen. Certainly in the UK, we know we might not get to see HBO Max until at least 2021 because HBO has a content deal in place with Sky. Could the special air on Sky instead? I guess we’ll cross that bridge once everyone officially signs on.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, talks are ongoing and they haven’t even begun trying to organise everyone’s schedules. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
