If you’re a long-term reader of this site, you will know I consider The West Wing to be the greatest TV series ever made.
And so I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am at the news the show is coming back for a special one-off episode. The only thing that could make me happier would be a full-blown revival.
The cast are getting back together for a reunion special which will be available on HBO Max in the United States in the run-up to the election.
A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote will feature a theatrical staging of the Hartsfield’s Landing episode from the show’s third season and will be shot at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles in early October.
Michelle Obama will make a guest appearance in the special, while additional cast members and special guests from the worlds of public service and the arts will be announced in the coming weeks.
In terms of West Wing-alumni, Aaron Sorkin is writing, Thomas Schlamme is directing, and Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Bradley Whitford are all reprising their roles.
“Tommy and I are incredibly excited to be getting The West Wing cast back together for this staged reading and to support When We All Vote in their efforts to get all of us involved in this election,” Sorkin said.
I am honestly so excited about this news. The only downside is the great John Spencer won’t be there as Leo McGarry.
What do you think? Are you excited to see the show back?
