Work on Star Wars Episode VIII has begun and it will be much darker in tone according to John Boyega.

In an interview with Vogue, everyone’s favourite former Storm Trooper said Episode VIII will have a similar tone to The Empire Strikes Back

“[We’re] just starting work on ‘Star Wars VIII,’ the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again,” Boyega said. “It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”

He also revealed Episode VIII will see Boyega’s character Finn become a bit more of a bad-ass. “My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more.”

Episode VIII is being directed by Rian Johnson and is due for release in the summer of 2017.
