Poldark will return for a third series

I suppose it’s not that much of a surprise but the BBC have confirmed Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson will star in a third series of Poldark.

Series two hasn’t aired yet – rumours suggest it could start on September 4 – but the Beeb are so confident it’ll be a ratings winner that they’ve already announced series three.

Series two is set in 1794 and sees the drama unfold against the backdrop of the French revolution which casts a shadow over life in Cornwall.

The new series will introduce some brand new characters including John Nettles as Ray Penvenen, one of the county’s wealthiest landowners, and Gabriella Wilde as his niece Caroline Penvenen, a beautiful and manipulative heiress.

Hugh Skinner, who you might know from W1A and Channel 4’s The Windsors, plays Unwin Trevaunance, a prospective MP who hopes that Caroline (and her fortune) will consent to marry him and Sebastian Armesto joins the cast as George Warleggan’s right hand man and attorney-at-law, Tankard.

Can’t wait!
