Sometimes lightning strikes as a film is put together and you know it’s going to be one that’s going to garner loads of attention.
So when it’s announced Steven Spielberg is going to direct Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in a new film you sit up and take notice. Because with that amount of talent involved, surely it can’t go wrong.
The film is called The Post and is a drama set in 1971 about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers, a study about the Virtnam. war, and how the Post’s editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham challenged the federal government over their right to publish them.
Hanks will play Bradlee (who we’ve seen portrayed on screen before in All The President’s Men) with Streep as Graham.
The classified study revealed unreported facts about a secret dramatic escalation of troops and bombings in what was appearing to be an unwinnable war.
Everything’s at the deal stage at he moment but if this does come off then brace yourselves come awards season.
