Ethel and Ernest team adapt Michael Morpurgo book

For me, one of the best things on TV over the Christmas period was the feature animation Ethel and Ernest, based in the book by Raymond Briggs.

Now the team that created that film are working on a new project based on Michael Morpurgo’s story Kensuke’s Kingdom.

The script has been written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

The story follows the adventures of a young boy and his dog who are shipwrecked on a remote desert island.

Terrified and struggling to survive, the boy soon discovers that they share the island with a mysterious old Japanese man who has been living on the island for decades with a family of orangutans as his companions.

It’s currently in production so no word yet on a release date.

And if you haven’t seen Ethel and Ernest, I urge you to track it down.
