Colin Firth, Julie Walters head to the Secret Garden

Colin Firth and Julie Walters are to star in a new adaptation of The Secret Garden.

The film is being produced by David Heyman, the man behind the Harry Potter and Paddington films.

Filming begins on Monday with Marc Munden directing. The screenplay has been written by Jack Thorne.

The Secret Garden follows Mary Lennox a prickly and unloved 10-year-old girl, born in India to wealthy British parents who never wanted her. When her parents suddenly die, she is sent back to England to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven (Firth). She meets her sickly cousin Colin and the two children find a wondrous secret garden lost in the grounds of Misselthwaite Manor.
