James McAvoy ans Ruth Wilson have joined the cast of the BBC’s forthcoming adaptation of His Dark Materials.

McAvoy will play Lord Asriel in the series while Ruth Wilson has been cast as Marisa Coulter.

Clarke Peters, best known for his role in The Wire and the Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, has also joined the cast as The Master, a role that has been expanded from the books for the screen adaption.

It’s sort of a tenuous X-Men reunion as Dafne Keen, who starred with Hugh Jackman in Logan, has already been announced to play Lyra. And Lin-Manuel Miranda is Lee Scoresby.

Filming is due to begin in Cardiff and on location in Wales in the next month.

The series will be directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper and has been adapted by Jack Thorne.
