Aidan Turner has signed on to play Leonardo da Vinci in a new TV series from Frank Spotnitz, the creator of The Man in the High Castle.

The eight episode series, currently titled Leonardo, aims to offer a new take on the Renaissance genius, with each episode focusing on one of his achievements.

Producers said they expect to announce more high-profile cast members in the run up to filming, which begins in December.

No word yet on where on when we might see it.
