Matilda the Musical heads to the big screen

A film of the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda is due to begin shooting this summer.

It will be directed by acclaimed theatre director Matthew Warchus and will shoot from August to December 2020. Warchus also directed the theatre version of the musical.

The film is expected to include the music and lyrics written by Tim Minchin for the stage adaptation.

A casting call notice has been posted online for the film. Producers are in search of a girl aged 9-11, with a height of 4’3″ or shorter, with a strong voice and movement skills.

No word yet on when the film will be released.
