Hayley Mills pens memoir

Actress Hayley Mills, who starred in the original version of The Parent Trap, is writing a memoir about her early years.

Mills, daughter of famed English actor Sir John Mills, rose to fame in the 1960’s starring in Pollyanna, The Parent Trap and Whistle Down the Wind.

The memoir, titled Forever Young, will will tell her story up to age 21, “because that’s when my life became my own — it’s the bit that went before that I want to take back”, said Mills. The story will be “told with characteristic warmth and filled with many fond memories” but will also explore mismanagement, bankruptcy, strained family relationships and dislocation.

Mills added: “Sometimes it takes a lifetime to make sense of one’s childhood; Forever Young has taken me back through the looking glass, to those days of wonder and confusion; remembering the rare and exceptional people I was lucky enough to meet and love, while trying to fathom the strange fortuitous events that shaped my family’s life.”

Forever Young will be published in September.
