British Library to publish Sea Shanty book

Have you been following this new sea shanty craze that has sprung up on social media in the past couple of weeks?

It started on TikTok with musicians and singers joining in classic shanties and songs under the #seashantytok hashtag – I’ve even watched Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow singing one.

Anyway, to coincide with this new craze, a guide to sea shanties is being published by the British Library.

Sailor Song: The Shanties and Ballads of the High Seas will include more than 40 shanties and 10 songs with lyrics, musical notation and the history of each song.

The book will be published on 21st January.
