Miranda Otto will star alongside Brian Cox and Gaia Wise in the forthcoming animated film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
The film follows Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan, a character from the J.R.R. Tolkien book’s appendix. Cox will provide the voice of Hammerhand.
Otto will reprise her role as Eowyn, and will be the story’s narrator, while Wise (daughter of Emma Thompson), will play Hammerhand’s daughter Hera.
The anime film is set 183 years before the events chronicled in Lord of the Rings.
A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep.
Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
The film is due to be released in April 2024.
