McKellen’s Hamlet to be released in cinemas

Film company Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has revealed plans to release a new version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, starring Ian McKellen.

The film is based on the production staged at the Theatre Royal Windsor in 2021 (which I saw and thought was utterly mesmerising).

McKellen reprises his lead role as Hamlet, a man who descends into madness as he seeks vengeance against his uncle for the alleged murder of his father.

The cast also includes Frances Barber, Jonathan Hyde, Jenny Seagrove, Steven Berkoff and Francesca Annis.

The film will be released in cinemas for one night only on 27th February.
