Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will be involved in the new Lord of the Rings films, the first of which will be released in 2026.

Warner Bros Discovery has announced the trio will produce its new Lord of the Rings films, with CEO David Zaslav stating they will be involved “every step of the way”.

He added that the studio “anticipate releasing [the first film] in 2026” and will “explore storylines yet to be told”.

Earlier this year WBD confirmed it had secured a deal to make “multiple” films based on JRR Tolkien’s books.

Update: WBD has now announced the first film is currently titled Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum with Andy Serkis returning to star and direct the film.
