A UK TV production company is said to be working on a remake of Cheers, set in a British bar.
According to Deadline, Big Talk Studios is pitching the idea of a UK-set remake of the classic comedy.
The company is talking to UK broadcasters after being given the go-ahead by CBS Studios, which distributes the US series.
“The British pub is an endangered species, so there’s an answer for the ‘Why now?’ about it,” producer Kenton Allen told Deadline.
“The attitudes of Cheers in the ‘80s are very different to the attitudes of today, so there’s a massive amount of work to be done around taking inspiration from the original characters but creating something fresh.”
