It’s that time of year again when the movie world spotlight shifts from the West Coast of America to a small town on the French Riviera. The 68th International Cannes Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday and runs until May 24. As always with Cannes, it’s as much about the parties and being ‘seen’ as it is about the films themselves.

How’s this for a step up the Hollywood career ladder – former Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan is starring in a new film alongside Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Melissa Leo.
It’s believed Gillan has a supporting role in the film after she revealed the news of her casting on Twitter.
The Big Short is about the recent American financial crisis and filming is currently underway in New Orleans.

Sofia Vergara set for Hollywood honour
Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara will become the latest celeb to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later this week.
Vergara will be honoured with the 2551st star on the Hollywood attraction on May 7.
She’ll be joined at the event by Eric Stonestreet who plays Cameron on the show – and although it’s not been officially announced I suspect her fiancé Joe Manganiello will be on hand too.
Vergara’s star will be placed next to her on-screen husband, Ed O’Neill, outside Marshall’s department store on Hollywood Boulevard.
