Looking forward to London theatre

For the first time in a while, there are lots of new plays coming into London that I actually want to see.

Usually I get my fill of theatre when I’m in New York. I tend to fill my week with back-to-back shows. There’s been little in London that I’ve wanted to see.

Last year I did go to Martin Freeman’s Richard III which I really enjoyed.

Anyway the point I’m trying to make is that London finally seems to be attracting actors that people might want to consider spending their hrs earned cash on.

James McAvoy, Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes are all onstage in London this spring – Thompson making her return to the West End stage forthwith first time in over 20 years.

And now it’s been confirmed that Bradley Cooper will bring the Broadway production of The Elephant Man to the West End from May. John Goodman’s joining Damian Lewis in American Buffalo.

Add to all that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet at the Barbican during the autumn, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in No Man’s Land and it feels to me that London is starting to compete with Broadway again.
