There’s just over two weeks until the eyes of the showbiz world turn to San Diego for the 46th outing of geek heaven, also known as Comic-Con.
So many panels and actors are being confirmed on a daily basis, so I thought I’d provide a handy catch-up of who you can, and can’t, expect at this year’s SDCC.
At the time of writing there aren’t that many film events that have been officially confirmed. But those that have are pretty big.
If you want to go to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel on July 10 then I suggest you start queueing now – because it is going to be packed!! Director JJ Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, writer Lawrence Kasdan and “special guests” are expected to attend. You know it’s going to be most. The cast…
Another of the big draws at this year’s Con will be the panel for The Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part 2. It’s the final time the film series will show up in San Diego as fans prepare to say farewell to Katniss Everdeen et al. The panel on July 9 is expected to include Q&As with talent as well as a possible screening of new footage. More details tba on that one.
The Marvel Universe won’t be at the Con this year (shame) with some pundits predicting Disney want to hold back talent for their own event D23 in August. But with Star Wars hitting the Con in a pretty big way I think that’s probably not true.
In terms of TV, of course the big event will be Game of Thrones on July 10. HBO are bringing in Seth Meyers to host the panel with confirmed attendees including Alfie Allen (Theon/Reek), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Conleth Hill (Varys), Hannah Murray (Gilly), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Carice van Houten (Melissandre) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). And no, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) isn’t currently expected.
Other TV highlights include Peter Capaldi making his Comic-Con debut at the Doctor Who panel on July 9. He’ll be joined by Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez and Steven Moffat – please can someone try and get Moffat to discuss Sherlock?
And while it may not be quite in-keeping with the usual SDCC fare, I’m excited to find out more about new new Muppets series which is expected to be included in ABC’s presentation (no date yet). I love the idea of Fozzie, Kermit and the gang mixing it up with the likes of Han Solo, Katniss Everdeen and Arya Stark!
