Clips of the week – July 19

After a little break, Clips of the Week is back with new trailers featuring Robert Redford, Jennifer Lawrence, Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Let’s start with A Walk in the Woods. It’s based on the novel by Bill Bryson about his attempt to trek The Appalachian Trail, 1000 arduous miles stretching from Maine to Georgia, alongside his childhood friend Stephen Katz. The film stars Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and Emma Thompson and is directed by Ken Kwapis. It’s released in the UK on September 18.

Jennifer Lawrence goes for another shot at Oscar with her new drama, Joy.  The true story follows a family through four generations and the remarkable woman who triumphs as the founder and matriarch of a billion dollar empire, transforming her life and that of her family. Directed by David O Russell, the film also stars Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen. It’s released on January 1.

Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore star as best friends in Miss You Already. Their friendship is put to the test when one falls ill and the other starts a family. The supporting cast includes Dominic Cooper and Paddy Considine and the film is directed by Catherine Hardwicke – best known for making the first Twilight film. It’s out on September 25,

Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy star in drama Legend. The Brit actor plays both Ronnie and Reggie Kray in the crime thriller about the infamous brothers who terrorised London during the 1960s. Hardy is joined by the likes of  Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Taron Egerton and Christopher Eccleston in the film which is directed by Brian Helgeland and is released on September 9.

Tom Hardy also features in The Revenant, the new film from Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a man betrayed and left for dead in uncharted territory. The supporting cast includes Hardy as well as Will Poulter, Lukas Haas and Domhnall Gleeson. As you’d expect the film is gunning for awards glory so will be released on January 15.
