Ever since it took the Cannes Film Festival by storm in May, I’ve been looking forward to watching Loving – and now we have an official trailer.
The film is the powerful real-life story of interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, played by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga.
Set in 1960s Virginia, the Lovings were married in Washington, DC, and later arrested for violating Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law. They then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown.
Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry, altering the course of history.
As always, those lucky Americans will get to see Loving before us Brits. It’s released in the US in November in November and in the UK in February. Not fair!
