Victor Meldrew is being brought back from the dead in a new novel.
Creator David Renwick has revealed plans to bring back the charater to face the challenges of the 21st century.
One Foot in the Grave ran on BBC One from 1990 to 2000 and starred Richard Wilson as Meldrew and Annette Crosbie as his long-suffering wife Margaret.
The book is expected to draw on material from the TV series but in a 21st century setting.
Speaking to the Distinct Nostalgia podcast about his new book, Renwick said he killed the TV version of Meldrew off because “I felt the show had probably lasted as long as it could have done⦠by actually terminating Victor in the story, I made sure that people wouldn’t keep asking if I would write any more. That was the main reason.”
The book, titled One Foot in the Grave and Counting, is expected to be published later this year.
