A new anime film set in Middle-earth is in the works from the studio that released Peter Jackson’s six Lord of the Rings films.
New Line and Warner Animation are working on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh aren’t currently involved with the project, but Philippa Boyens is acting as a consultant.
The film is being directed by Kenji Kamiyama and casting is said to be currently underway.
The War of the Rohirrim focuses on a character from the book’s appendix, King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and a legendary battle which helped shaped Middle-earth. It is set around 250 years before the events of Lord of the Rings.
“This will be yet another epic portrayal of JRR Tolkien’s world that has never been told before. We’re honoured to partner with much of the incredible talent behind both film trilogies, along with new creative luminaries to tell this story,” said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation. “And so it begins.”
