Fan girls rejoice – James McAvoy and Richard Armitage have both been nominated for Best Actor at this year’s Olivier Awards.

The two stars are nominated alongside Tim Pigott Smith and Mark Strong.

The actress category also includes some theatrical heavyweights with Imelda Stauton, Gillian Anderson, Kristin Scott Thomas and Penelope Wilton all nominated.

Other acting nominees include Dame Angela Lansbury who I suspect may be a shoe-in for Best Supprting Actress and Nicole Scherzinger, Gemma Arterton, Beverley Knight and Tamsin Greig who are all nominated in the musical categories.

In fact it’s the musicals that lead the way in terms of most nominations with Memphis, starring Bevereky Knight, top of the list with nine followed by Broadway transfer Beautiful with eight.

The winners will be announced on April 12.
