Doctor Who goes 4K

This year’s Doctor Who festive special will be available to watch in 4K HDR via BBC iPlayer.

The BBC will prompt viewers to switch to the red button before the broadcast at 6.45pm on New Year’s Day. It recommends viewers stream the show with a minimum 24 megabits per second (Mbps) connection.

The BBC first publicly tested 4K HDR content in 2016 with its Planet Earth II series. Recent NHU series Dynasties was also made available in 4K on iPlayer, as well as His Dark Materials and football matches during 2018’s FIFA World Cup.

Other festive highlights that will be available on 4K HDR include The Queen’s Speech, Black Narcissus and Meerkat: A Dynasties Special.
